Creative & Inspirational Music Videos

Grimes is a popular artist who just like Crystal Castles has gained a vast amount of popularity due to the social networking site Tumblr. Within this video it shows that Grimes hasn't been sexually objectified but instead the men are being sexually objectified. It shows that 'The Male Gaze' theory isn't always used with female singers within music videos.

Crystal Castles videos are known to not show a vast amount of narrative within them, they're mainly performance based or only connect with the lyrics narratively ever so slightly. The music video for 'Plague' doesn't feature any of the members of Crystal Castles it only focuses on a contemporary performance by an actress. The music videos for Crystal Castles always seem to focus on Alice Glass the singer, it gives a sense of empowerment for her as a female but it also shows the mystery around Ethan Kath. His face is not shown greatly, as can be seen in 'Baptism' he's wearing a mask adding to the idea that artists within the genre try to hide their identity and be mysterious with very little face appearances.

Chvrches have gained a great amount of popularity due to be played on Radio 1 and are one of the most popular bands featured within the indietronica genre. The video for 'The Mother We Share' features a variation in narrative and performance however the performance is the most featured. This video again features on the female lead singer in particular whereas the males that are part of the band tend to be hidden or only be noticed due to very subtle lighting. The female lead singer hasn't been sexually objectified she is wearing a costume choice based upon casual attire. I like this particular video due to it's simplicity, nothing is over the top and the singer hasn't been made to look sexually desirable.
